A Journey to the Pyramids

Today was a much-anticipated day as we returned to the great pyramids with excitement and awe. Our wonderful guide, Marwa Abbas, brings history to life for us once again.

Just outside Cairo lies Sakkara, home to the remarkable Step Pyramid of King Djoser. Built around 2,650 BC by the genius architect Imhotep, this six-tiered monument was the world’s first pyramid. It revolutionized Egyptian architecture and became the blueprint for all pyramids to follow.

A short drive away, the legendary Giza Plateau awaits. The iconic Great Pyramid of Khufu, once the tallest structure on earth for nearly 4,000 years, still dominates the skyline. Here, you’ll also find the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, along with the enigmatic Great Sphinx standing guard over the desert sands. For the most breathtaking views, the panoramic lookout offers a perfect alignment of all three pyramids—a scene that connects you directly to these ancient wonders.

I feel so fortunate to experience this grandeur once again. If Egypt is on your bucket list, there is no better time to make it happen. Thanks again to our hosts, AmaWaterways, for curating such exceptional experiences.
