Aman Venice: An Intimate Retreat
Kareem George here, on location in Italy at the spectacular Aman Venice. This resort imbues a sense of place like few others: an iconic setting on the Grand Canal, incredible architectural detail and still home to the noble Papadopoli family.
This residence was built in the mid-1500s, and is one of only 8 monumental palazzos on the Grand Canal. It features two piano nobile - the grand floors that were used for lavish entertaining by the Papadopoli family who acquired and transformed the Palazzo in 1864. It was restored and opened as Aman Venice in June 2013.
I love the intimacy of this property and the gracious service. The Aman Venice has 24 rooms, some featuring original historical details. The Palazzo features two gardens, with the main garden facing on to the Grand Canal. Guests enjoy a true oasis in the heart of this iconic city.
We enjoyed a spectacular dinner on our first night at Arva by Aman. The menu and flavorful dishes were equally inspiring as the ambience…
Arva celebrates Italy’s culinary heritage with cucina del raccolto or harvest cuisine. Inspired by the Latin term Arva meaning cultivated land, celebrated chefs honor tradition and the finest local produce, creating both beloved classics and signature dishes that celebrate the seasons.
As you see, I savored the most vibrant greens, delicate fish and richest dessert. Arva’s chefs partner with local suppliers to source fresh Adriatic fish, Tuscan and Ligurian olive oils, artisanal pasta and niche market produce, creating a selection of pastas, risottos, meats, seafood and cicchetti-inspired small plates.
Our meal was paired with a blended local white wine from the Veneto that I will seek out for our cellar at home. What a luxury to be able to simply walk back to our room following such a marvelous dining experience.
